Blessed Mannes was the brother of St. Dominic de Guzmán, founder of the Order of Preachers (Dominicans). Mannes was born around 1180 in Calaruega, Spain, into the same noble family.
His Life and Conversion
Mannes initially pursued a worldly life but was drawn toward the spiritual path through his brother’s example and preaching. He eventually joined the Dominican Order and became a friar, dedicating himself to the apostolic life of preaching and prayer alongside Dominic.
His Holiness
Mannes lived with deep commitment to poverty, penance, and the contemplative dimensions of the Dominican vocation. He died around 1230 and was beatified by the Church, recognized for his sanctity and fidelity to religious life.
His Feast Day
Blessed Mannes is commemorated on July 30th in the liturgical calendar.
